"Founder-CEO Succession: A Make or Break Inflection Point"

Following the successful Growth Series events organized by NEIBC in 2012, we are excited to announce the first event of the series for 2013.  The event will take place on Friday, February 15, from 8-10am at the Foley Hoag Emerging Enterprise Center in Waltham.

The first session will focus on one of the most critical decisions in the life-cycle of startups: Has the company reached an inflection point where it might want to replace the founding CEO?  Harvard Business School Professor Noam Wasserman, author of the bestseller "The Founder's Dilemmas: Anticipating and Avoiding the Pitfalls That Can Sink a Startup", will provide his insights through an interactive session on why such transitions commonly fail.  While a certain percentage of start-ups succumb to issues of product or market fit, the vast majority meet their end due to such "people problems." We will also hear from Boris Revsin, Founder & EVP, Business Development at DailyBreak who will give his personal reflections on Founder-CEO succession.

·         הספרייה הישראלית – לשמחתנו גייסנו תרומה ראשונית של ספרים בשפה העברית אותם אנחנו מתכוונים לייעד לשימוש הקהילה. הספרייה תפעל במתכונת "ספריית מטיילים" (ללא ספרנית), וכולם יוכלו לשאול ספרים ואף לתרום ספרים שכבר נקראו. הודעה נוספת תישלח כאשר ייקבע מיקומה של הספרייה. בינתיים, מי שמעוניין לתרום ספרים יכול לפנות לנדב ב – nadavgan@mit.edu.

·         הכר את השכן – קהילת הסטודנטים הישראליים ב MIT מונה עשרות סטודנטים ממחלקות שונות, אך רבים מאיתנו נחשפים רק לתחום בו אנו עוסקים וכך מחמיצים הזדמנות פז ללמוד על תחומים רבים ומגוונים ולהכיר ישראלים נוספים. לכן החלטנו לפתוח בסדרת מפגשים בהם יארחו סטודנטים ובוגרים ערבי שיחה במסגרת הפקולטה או החברה שלהם ויציגו את פעילותם לשאר חברי הקהילה. אנו מאמינים שאירועים מסוג זה של שיתוף ידע יעשירו את החוויה שלנו כסטודנטים ב MIT ואולי אף יובילו לשיתופי פעולה בין-מחלקתיים. יש לנו כבר מספר מתנדבים המוכנים לארח כאלו מפגשים, אך נשמח אם יהיו עוד. האירועים יהיו מצומצמים (בהתאם לקיבולת של המחלקות) והמפגשים יאורגנו על ידינו, כך שכל מה שיידרש מהמתנדבים הוא זמנם והרצון לשתף בפועלם. מתנדבים המעוניינים לארח מוזמנים לפנות לנדב ב – nadavgan@mit.edu.

We wanted to thank everyone that joined us last Monday for our Israeli Pub Night – it was great seeing so many familiar faces and new faces :)

As promised, this week we are bringing Gil Hovav to campus for a talk about love, war, great food and growing up in Jerusalem (see additional details below). Israeli style dinner will be provided!

Wartime Cooking in Jerusalem

Gil Hovav, born in 1962, is a leading culinary journalists and television personality who comes from one of the most respected families in the Jewish world: he is the great-grandson of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the reviver of the Hebrew language; the grandson of  Itamar Ben-Avi who began modern Hebrew journalism; and the son of Moshe & Drora Hovav, "founding members" of Israel's modern day public radio.

Mr. Hovav himself, with his illustrious career in journalism, in television and as an author, has played a major role in changing Israeli cuisine from one of basic traditional foods to one of enviable gourmet dining. He began his career as a restaurant critic, moved on to become a newspaper editor , and was involved in creating, producing and presenting some of Israel's most viewed and loved television food shows. These include the classic "Pepper, Garlic and Olive Oil", "Captain Cook" (which reviewed the world's best restaurants), and "Going to the Market". These series later turned into best-selling cookbooks.

As an author, Mr/ Hovav has published three best-selling novels all related to his family's colorful history, exposing with humor and emotion the Jerusalem of his childhood that no longer exists. He has lectured around the world about  Wartime Cooking in Jerusalem, My Great (and short) Grandfather Eliezer Ben Yehuda and Being Gay in Israel Today and has led cooking demonstrations and seminars focusing on Israeli cuisine, combined with his unique personal stories

Nowadays, Mr/ Hovav is busy with his publishing and production company - Toad Communications. For the past 21 years he has lived with his partner whom he met during their army service, and together they raise their six year old daughter, Naomi.

Please remember to bring a valid ID! We cannot do much to assist you if you forget to bring it.

Also, as promised, we are co-sponsoring an event with the Israeli Consulate and MISTI Israel to bring Gil Hovav to the MIT campus next Tuesday, November 13^th, at 6PM, E51-395.

Israeli Bar Night 2011!

Hey people,

We will be holding the famous Israeli Pub Night for the second time this year next week, Monday February 7th! Mark the date!

 What: Israeli Pub Night - Israeli food, drinks, music and a lot of Israelis!
